MINNEAPOLIS - Sophomore forward Dani Cameranesi has earned her second-straight and fourth overall WCHA Offensive Player of the Week award after leading the Gophers with four points in a road sweep at Bemidji State last weekend.
Cameranesi recorded two goals, two assist, nine shots on goal, one blocked shot and a plus-one plus/minus rating. She was on the ice for five of seven Gopher goals in the series.
In Friday's 3-2 win, Cameranesi scored the game-tying goal in the second period to make it 1-1 after BSU took a 1-0 lead. She then assisted Hannah Brandt's go-ahead goal just 3:17 later to give Minnesota a 2-1 lead. She finished the game with five shots on goal.
Saturday, Cameranesi set up Maryanne Menefee's game-winning goal at 1:24 of the third period before sealing the 4-2 victory with an empty net goal before BSU goaltender Brittni Mowat could reach the bench for the extra attacker. She had four shots on goal for the game.
Cameranesi ranks fourth in the nation with 55 points and is third in the nation with 34 assists. She is second in the WCHA with 43 points, 17 goals, 26 assists and a plus-32 plus/minus rating in 27 league games. Cameranesi is closing in on her 100th career point as a Gopher as her career total now stands at 91 points (40g-51a) following her four-point series against the Beavers.
This weekend, Cameranesi and the Gophers host Minnesota State in the first round of the WCHA postseason. Game times are set 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at Ridder Arena. Game three, if necessary, is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday.
