Six Gophers Earn Career-Best Marks

MINNEAPOLIS - The Golden Gophers recorded six career-best marks as the Minnesota women's track & field team competed at two meets, Nebraska's Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational and Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational, Friday night.
Meyo Invitational
The Gophers competed in the 5,000-meter run, 600-meter run and distance medley relay at Notre Dame Friday night.
Danielle Anderson and Jamie Piepenburg both ran career-best times in the 5,000m as Anderson placed 10th in 16:57.60 and Piepenburg was 18th in 17:11.93.
Likewise, Lauren Domski clocked a career-best 1:33.70 in the 600m, placing 10th overall and finishing just shy of making Minnesota's all-time top-10 list in the event. Domski's 1:33.70 is the second fastest 600m by a Gopher this season.
The distance medley relay team of Stacey Swatek, Andie Zeman, Anne Ferguson and Ally McSherry clocked an 11:43.49 for sixth place as well.
Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational
In her first collegiate open 400-meter dash, freshman Emerald Egwim ran a 55.20 to rank seventh among all-time Gopher sprinters. Egwim's time was a career best and tied for seventh at the meet.
Fellow freshman Emma Spagnola qualified for the final of the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.58 in prelims. Junior Kimberly Golding took 10th in a career-best 8.63 seconds. Spagnola was also 15th in the long jump.
Senior Devin Stanford was Minnesota's lone event champion Friday night, picking up the title in the weight throw with a toss of 19.45 meters. redshirt junior Lyndsey Thorpe also earned a top-five finish, placing fifth with a throw of 18.89m. Junior Ke-ke Burks (15.67m), freshman Agnes Esser (career-best 15.64m) and redshirt sophomore Angie Guenther (15.59m) placed 18th, 19th and 20th, respectively, as well.
Both meets continue Saturday. The distance runners and pole vaulters continue action at Notre Dame with the rest of the Gophers competing at Nebraska. Live results are available for both meets, and Flotrack is streaming the Meyo Invitational.
