Gopher Sports: Why did you decide to attend the University of Minnesota?
Devin Ste. Marie: I wanted to go to a Big Ten school and when I met the team and the coaches I knew the school and program here would be a great fit. Also, maroon and gold look great on everyone.
GS: What is your most memorable swimming moment?
DSM: Winning Big Tens my freshman year. It was thrilling to see how all the swimmers, coaches, and parents were so invested in the meet and it was awesome to be a part of the team that won the championship for the first time in four years.
GS: What is your favorite part of being a Golden Gopher?
DSM: What I love most is being on a team where I can train and travel around the country with my best friends.
GS: What is the best advice you have received from one of the coaches at Minnesota?
DSM: My coach Ryan Purdy once said to "be one with the water". He and the other coaches also remind us to embrace all the opportunities we are given as student athletes.
GS: What is your dream job?
DSM: I have always wanted to have a voice role in an animated movie.
GS: What is your favorite post-meet meal?
DSM: Panera
GS: Do you have any other hobbies outside of swimming/diving?
DSM: I like lake activities and outdoor games in the summer, as well as baking, doing crafts, watching movies, and playing Catan with my roommates.
GS: What do you plan on doing after graduation?
DSM: I plan on staying in America and working, and hopefully traveling around to visit some friends this summer!
GS: Want to give a shout out to anyone?
DSM: I would like to give a shout out to my parents and my two sisters for enduring my long swim meets when I was younger, and for always cheering me on no matter where they are. And another shout out to my fellow seniors and teammates for the best four years I could have asked for.
