Herauf Places Fifth in NCAA Pentathlon

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Minnesota redshirt junior Jess Herauf earned First Team All-American honors with a fifth-place finish and broke her own Minnesota program record in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday afternoon.
Herauf scored a Gopher record 4,372 points, improving on the program record for the third time this season. In addition to a career-high score, Herauf also recorded career-best marks in the 800-meter run at 2:13.90 and the shot put at 13.74m (45-1). She tied her career-best leap of 1.74m (5-8.50) in the high jump as well.
The Dickinson, N.D., native placed second in both the pentathlon shot put and 800m. She was ninth in the long jump with her second-best jump of her career at 5.93m (19-5.50).
Herauf began the pentathlon by clocking a time of 8.78 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, her second-fastest time of the season.
The All-American finish for Herauf marked the second of her career after placing ninth in the pentathlon for second-team honors at the 2014 NCAA indoor championship.
Georgia's Kendell Williams won the 2015 NCAA pentathlon crown with a score of 4,678 points, setting new NCAA championship, collegiate and facility records as she successfully defended her NCAA title from a year ago.
Herauf and the Gophers begin the outdoor season at the University of South Alabama Invite next Friday, March 20.
