STANFORD, Calif. -- Distance runners Liz Berkholtz, Becca Dyson, Haley Johnson and Kaila Urick represented the Minnesota women's track & field team at the Stanford Invitational Friday.

Berkholtz and Dyson led the way with career-best performances in the 5,000-meter run. Berkholtz posted a time of 16:32.17 to move into 10th among Gophers all-time while Dyson took over 12 seconds off her previous personal best (16:59.15) with her time of 16:46.97.Meanwhile, Johnson ran her first 5,000m of the year in 17:55.21.

Urick recorded a time of 10:33.41 in her first 3,000-meter steeplechase race of the season. She placed fourth in her section and finished 24th of 48 overall. Urick was just under seven seconds off her personal best of 10:26.52.

"Overall, I was pleased with the progress of the whole group this weekend between those competing at Stanford and at Baylor," director of women's track & field and cross country Matt Bingle said. "It was a good first step for the outdoor season, but there is plenty of work to be done.

"We're looking forward to a good week of training before we take one group to Arkansas this coming weekend. We need to continue working hard and improving each week."

Most of the team competed at the Baylor Invitational on Friday, led by senior Devin Stanford's Minnesota program record performance in the hammer throw. The Gophers had four program top-10 performances, 20 top-10 places and 12 personal bests at Baylor.

Next weekend, Minnesota heads to the John McDonnell Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas April 10-11. The Gophers will also send student-athletes to the Hamline Invitational on April 11.
