Gophers Wrap Day 1 at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - After the first day of competition at the 2015 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, the University of Minnesota sits in 19th place with 19 points. Last year's NCAA Champions, Georgia, are in first, while California and Stanford round out the top three. Tonight's finals competition featured two Gophers: senior Rebecca Weiland and sophomore Yu Zhou.
Rebecca Weiland represented Minnesota in the consolation final of the 50 freestyle. Weiland placed 14th after touching the wall with a 22.21. The senior is the Minnesota school record holder in the event (21.88).
Yu Zhou captured the bronze on the one-meter springboard. Zhou totaled 338 points for third place. Zhou was the 2015 Big Ten Diver of the Championships, as well as the Big Ten Champion in this event.
The action continues tomorrow at the Greensboro Aquatic Center with preliminary heats of 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay beginning at 10 a.m. CT, with three-meter diving prelims starting at 12:45 p.m. CT.
