Minnesota to Travel to Auburn for NCAA Regional

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The 2015 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championship regional fields were announced this afternoon by the NCAA. No. 17-ranked Minnesota will be the third seed in its region as the squad travels to Auburn, Alabama on April 4.
The Gophers will be joined by No. 5 Alabama who earned the top-seed in the region, host and No. 8-ranked Auburn as well as Big Ten foes No. 23 Iowa and Maryland. George Washington rounds out the six teams competing at Auburn Arena.
Six teams were named to each of the six predetermined host sites. The other sites include Ames, Iowa (Iowa State University), Berkeley, Calf. (University of California, Berkeley), Columbus, Ohio (The Ohio State University), Morgantown, W.V., (West Virginia University) and Norman, Okla. (Oklahoma University).
The top two teams from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Fort Worth, Texas set for April 17-19. Minnesota will begin the meet on balance beam. A full rotation order can be found on the Auburn Tigers Regional Central page.
Junior Lindsay Mable and the Golden Gophers placed sixth at the Big Ten Championships this past weekend at the 2015 Big Ten Championships. Mable earned second-place in the all-around competition by posting a combined score of 39.625 as well as winning individual event titles on both vault (9.950) and floor exercise (9.925).
Following the competition, Mable was named to the All-Championship team with sophomore Rachel Haines who tallied a career-high 9.925 on vault in the third rotation of competition.
The coveted Big Ten Gymnast of the Year award was given to Mable who collected 29 event wins, 10 consecutive all-around crowns, six Big Ten Gymnast of the Week awards as well as being ranked No. 1 in the national in the all-around twice this season.
In 2012, Minnesota qualified for the NCAA Championships as a team for the first time since 2002 after they scored a 197.100 at the Gainesville, Fla. Regional good enough for second place. The Gophers then finished fourth in the first semifinal at the NCAA Championships in Los Angeles, Calf.
