MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) -- Gopher Hockey senior forward Seth Ambroz has signed an amateur try-out with the Springfield Falcons, the American Hockey League organization announced today.
Ambroz will wear No. 38 for the Falcons and joins former Gopher forward Mike Hoeffel on the Springfield roster.
A native of New Prague, Minn., Ambroz closed out his college career with 70 points (40 goals, 30 assists) in 159 career games with the Gophers and was part of the first class in Minnesota's modern era to win four-straight regular-season conference championships.
"I'm looking forward to this opportunity and to continue my hockey career at the pro level," Ambroz said. "Playing hockey at the University of Minnesota was a dream come true for me, and I want to thank everyone who helped make that possible -- the coaches and staff, the guys on the team, my family and friends and also all the Gopher fans who have supported the team during my four years at the `U.'"
Ambroz served as an alternate captain for the Gophers as a senior in 2014-15 and helped the Gophers win the 2015 Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament for the team's first conference playoff tournament title since 2007. The Big Ten playoff championship also earned Minnesota its fourth-straight NCAA tournament berth while no team in the NCAA had more wins over the last four years than Minnesota with 105.
"We certainly wish Seth the best as he takes the next step in his hockey career and thank him for his contributions to Gopher Hockey," Gopher Hockey head coach Don Lucia said. "Like all of our seniors, Seth was a great leader for us and an integral part of the success we've had here at Minnesota over the last four years."
Ambroz played in all but four games during his four years with the Maroon & Gold and ended his career with 88-straight appearances including every game of his junior and senior seasons. His final two years with the program were his best in terms of offensive production with 23 points in each season while 11 of his 40 career goals came against Border Battle and Big Ten rival Wisconsin.
A four-year letter winner for the Gophers and a three-time academic all-conference recipient, Ambroz was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fifth round (128th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
