MINNEAPOLIS (Gophersports.com) -- The University of Minnesota men's track & field program has announced the signing of four-time Division III national champion and eight-time Division III All-American thrower Sean Donnelly.

Donnelly, who previously competed at Mount Union, will join the Gophers next year with one outdoor season of eligibility left after an impressive career at the Division III level.

The Willoughby, Ohio native is coming off an NCAA indoor national championship in the weight throw after setting a new NCAA Division III record and personal record of 21.75 meters (71-04 ft.). Donnelly also finished seventh in the shot put at the NCAA meet to earn All-America honors.

Donnelly was named the Division III Field Athlete of the Year and the Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships after helping the Purple Raiders to the program's first team national championship with a pair of individual titles and three All-America accolades. He won the NCAA outdoor hammer title with a personal record of 66.01 meters (216.07 ft.) and also finished with a national title in the shot put while placing seventh in the discus.

He won his first national championship at the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in the weight throw while his first All-America honor came at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships with a fifth-place showing in the shot put.

Donnelly won both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Division III Scholar Athlete of the Year awards and earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in 2014. He is a three-time NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year (two indoor, one outdoor).
