MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota head women's golf coach Michele Redman announced Thursday the signing of Muyu Wu to a National Letter of Intent. Wu, a native of China, will join the Gophers for the 2015-16 academic year.
"We are looking forward to welcoming Muyu to our team next season," said Redman. "She brings steady scoring ability and will be able to compete and help us be successful in the future."
Wu has competed internationally since 2013, including a sixth-place finish most recently in leg one of the China Amateur Tour. In 2014, Wu finished as the runner-up at the HSBC China Junior Open at Zhuhai, and was the champion of the HSBC Junior Team Championship from November 18-24, 2013 at Tycoon Golf Club in Shenzhen, China. She has competed in 13 events to date.
In the United States, Wu competed in two events on the Amateur Junior Golf Association. Last July in Parkville, Mo., she finished ninth at the Lockton / Samsung Kansas City Junior, carding a 16-over-par 232. A week later at the 2014 Lessing's AJGA Classic in Smithtown, N.Y., Wu finished tied for 14th at 11-over-par.
Wu joins the 2015 signing class of Maggie Heggerston (Pequot Lakes, Minn.), Meagan Rachey (Waconia, Minn.) and Niamh Ward (Lurgan, Northern Ireland), who inked their NLIs in November.
