Gophers Wrap Up Action at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Kaila Urick led the way with a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Gophers at the Drake Relays Saturday. Minnesota finished the Drake Relays with six career-best performancesand five program top-10 marks.
Urick led five Gophers in the 3,000m steeplechase in a career-best 10:19.48. She took over seven seconds off her previous career-best mark and still ranks fifth in Minnesota program history.
Also in the 3,000m steeplechase, Jamie Piepenburg placed 14th in 10:45.68, and Kate Buckname recorded a career-best time of 10:47.67 to place 17th overall. Taylor Mikkalson (season-best 10:50.33) and Madeline Strandemo (10:53.55) also raced.
The Gophers' distance medley relay team of Stacey Swatek, Lauren Domski, Anne Ferguson and Haley Johnson placed 11th to finish up Minnesota's events at the Drake Relays. Their time of 11:38.41 places them 10th in program history.
Earlier this week, the 4x1600m relay team of Ally McSherry, Johnson, Liz Berkholtz and Urick was fifth, and the 4x800m relay team of Swatek, Ferguson, Ally McSherry and Domski placed sixth. Both performances landamong the Gophers' top-10 all-time list.
Domski (2:08.00 in the 800m), Berkholtz (16:26.17 in the 5,000m), Becca Dyson (16:35.98 in the 5,000m) and Megan Bailey (37:30.28 in the 10,000m) all recorded career-best times in their respective events at the Drake Relays Thursday evening. Berkholtz moved into seventh in program history in the 5,000m as well.
The Gophers are also in action at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational and Macalester College's Janis Rider Invitational on Saturday.
