ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Minnesota softball sophomore Sara Groenewegen was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season, the conference announced Monday. The honor was the eighth weekly league plaudit awarded to a Gopher this season.
Groenewegen helped guide the Gophers to a 4-1 week with a win over North Dakota State and a three-game sweep of conference foe Iowa.
The White Rock, B.C. native went 3-0 on the week with three complete game shutout wins. Groenewegen tossed her second no-hitter in 10 days when she held North Dakota State hitless Wednesday and followed that up with a one-hitter and a two-hitter against Iowa.
She racked up 25 strikeouts in 15 scoreless innings of work. She is now 25-4 on the season with a Big Ten-best 285 strikeouts and held opponents to a league-best .064 batting average. Groenewegen now has three no-hitters in her career.
The Gophers will travel to Border Battle rival Wisconsin for a doubleheader Wednesday on the Big Ten Network before capping its regular season at home next weekend versus Purdue.
