SnappyTV Clips: T. Anderson Interview | Smith HR | Halloran HR

Toby Anderson did not allow a base runner until the sixth inning or a hit until the seventh in the Gophers' 5-0 win against Kansas State. Left-fielder Jordan Smith and catcher Matt Halloran hit home runs to support Anderson's longest start.

Anderson was perfect on the mound and had three strikeouts through 5 1/3 innings. He then hit Ethan Klosterboer with a pitch, but still faced the minimum number of batters in the sixth, as Sam Chadick lined out to third baseman Tony Skjefte and Halloran caught Klosterboer stealing.

Tyler Wolfe notched the Wildcats' (20-23) first hit with one out in the seventh. But he did not get past first base as the next two batters flied out.

Minnesota (19-21) led from the second inning on. Skjefte led off the second with a standup triple to center. He scored on designated hitter Micah Coffey's sacrifice fly.

Halloran doubled the lead with a leadoff home run to right-center in the fifth. Kansas State starter Mark Biesma (0-2) left the game after issuing a walk to the next batter, Coffey, and Lucas Benenati finished the inning. Halloran finished the game 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBIs and a walk.

The Gophers again doubled the lead with a home run in the seventh. Benenati walked Halloran and Smith hit his fourth home run of the season to right-center two batters later to make it 4-0. Smith batted 1-for-3.

Second baseman Connor Schaefbauer hit 2-for-4 and scored a run on a Halloran sacrifice fly in the eighth. It was the only run the Gophers pushed across after loading the bases against Mitch Plassmeyer.

Lucas Gilbreath and Matt Fiedler each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Gilbreath walked two and Fiedler one, but neither allowed a hit. Fiedler started the game in right field and went 1-for-3.

NOTABLE
*The shutout was the Gophers' fourth of the season and first since winning 3-0 at Nebraska on April 10.

*This was Minnesota's second time allowing one hit or fewer in 2015. The Gophers' no-hit Creighton on March 8.

*Shortstop Michael Handel walked in his last plate appearance, extending his reached base streak to 17 games. Center fielder Dan Motl, who is currently out with an injury, has the team's longest active on base streak at 18 games, including a 17-game hitting streak.
