Gophers Take Home Seven Titles

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota women's track & field team took home seven event titles at the Tommie Twilight hosted by the University of St. Thomas Wednesday evening.
Emma Spagnola and Francis Conlin picked up wins in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Spagnola improved upon her career best with a time of 13.64 seconds, which ranks second in program history, and Conlin ran her second-fastest time of the season at 1:04.64.
Along with two wins on the track, the Gophers recorded five titles in the field events.
Kelly Flynn won the long jump with a season-best jump of 5.64m (18-06.00). Meanwhile, Heta Tuuri and Katerina Gasteratou both cleared 1.65m (5-05.00) in the high jump to finish first and second, respectively.
Angie Guenther, Devin Stanford and Rachel Melum earned wins in the throwing events. Guenther won the discus with a season-best throw of 45.76m (150-01), and Melum finished first in the javelin at 40.15m (131-08).
Stanford finished first in the hammer throw at 59.77m (196-01) to lead eight Gophers in the top 10 of the hammer throw invitational, including five career-best marks by Ke-ke Burks (57.00m, 187-00), Agnes Esser (53.21m, 174-07), Kiley Sabin (48.95m, 160-07, unattached), Allie Heifort (48.82m, 160-02) and Nicolle Murphy (47.57m, 156-01).
Sabin also won the shot put with a throw of 13.73m (45-00.50) while competing unattached.
In total, the Gophers recorded 22 career-best marks Wednesday night. Action continues for Minnesota at Iowa's Musco Twilight and the Hamline Meet of the Un-Saintly this weekend.
