Goehner, Lohman Set to Compete with USA Volleyball

USA Volleyball announced its final United States Collegiate Team with two University of Minnesota standouts landing a roster spot. Alyssa Goehner (Lakeville, Minn.) and Molly Lohman (Mankato, Minn.) are two of 36 athletes to participate with the Collegiate National Team program that will train and compete in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships from June 21-29 in New Orleans, La.
With this announcement, the Gophers now have five current team members who are competing in USA Volleyball's CNT program. Paige Tapp was named to the World University Team, set to compete in July. Hannah Tapp and Sarah Wilhite will join the USA Volleyball program set to compete in China this upcoming June, while Goehner and Lohman will compete at the end of June in New Orleans. Goehner with compete with Team USA as a libero, while Lohman is one of nine middle blockers selected.
After the training portion of the program, the 36 athletes will be divided into three equal teams which will compete in a round-robin event June 26-29. The round-robin event may include and additional team to increase the field to four teams that would complete June 25-29.
In total, 60 athletes have been selected into the CNT program, which is part of the USA Volleyball High Performance pipeline. This program is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team.
As rookies with the Golden Gopher volleyball program, both Goehner and Lohman gained starting positions for Minnesota last year. In her freshman year, Goehner played in 110 of 111 possible sets and all 31 matches for the Gophers. One of the most versatile players for the Gophers, Goehner played as either an outside hitter, libero or defensive specialist. In her rookie campaign, Goehner had 87 kills, 15 aces. She also amassed 267 digs, which ranked second on the team. Lohman played in 51 sets as a freshman, played in 20 matches and started in nine. Coming on strong at the end of the season, Lohman finished her first collegiate season with 37 kills, hit .318 and averaged 0.80 blocks per set.Â
