Legend Bobby Bell Receives Degree
5/14/2015 12:00:00 AM | Football
At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2015, Bobby Bell, the 74-year-old who has an Outland Trophy, an NCAA national championship, a Super Bowl championship and is a member of both the college and pro football halls of fame, walked across a stage at Mariucci Arena and received his college degree from the University of Minnesota.
Bell is a legend of Gopher football and is one of only five players to ever have his number or jersey retired by the university. On the football field, he accomplished everything that was in front of him, as he went from a high school quarterback on a six-man team to winning the 1962 Outland Trophy. He has played in Rose Bowls and Super Bowls, but until Friday, he did not have his college degree.
On Friday, he earned what he called the top of the pyramid.
When Bell, adorned in cap and gown, walked across that stage he fulfilled a promise to his late father and also continued his long legacy of proving the doubters wrong.
