The NCAA announced today that thirteen Minnesota Golden Gopher programs have been honored with Academic Progress Rates (APR) Public Recognition Awards. The awards are given each year to collegiate programs scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport based on their most recent multi-year APR. The 13 Gopher squads is animprovement over the 12 teams awarded last year, and the five teams in the year prior to that.

Overall, the University of Minnesota ranked fifth among FBS institutions with the highest percentage of teams earning APR Awards and first among public institutions. The Golden Gophers ranked behind only Stanford (19), Notre Dame (17), Duke/Northwestern (15).

Baseball, men's cross country, men's gymnastics, men's tennis, men's track (indoor & outdoor), wrestling, women's golf, women's gymnastics, soccer, softball, women's swimming, women's tennis and volleyball all scored in the top 10 percent in their respective sports.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from the 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years.

"This is a tremendous achievement by our student-athletes, coaches and academic staff," said Director of Athletics Norwood Teague. "To place more than half of our programs in the top ten percent in the nation is truly something of which we can all be proud."

The NCAA will release comprehensive multi-year APR rates for all schools May 27.
