EUGENE, Ore. -- Gopher rookies Emma Spagnola and Kiley Sabin joined sophomore Nicolle Murphy in representing the Maroon & Gold at the USATF Championships at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., over the weekend.

Spagnola (100m hurdles) and Sabin (shot put, discus) competed in the USATF Junior Championships, while Murphy competed in the javelin in the USATF Senior Championships.

Though short of her Minnesota program-record (13.58), Spagnola advanced to the 100m hurdle final by clocking a 13.88 for seventh place in the preliminary round. She then ran 13.79 to finish sixth in the final.

Meanwhile, Sabin finished seventh in the shot put with a career-best throw of 14.76m (48-5.25), improving on her previous best mark of 14.43m (47-4.25) while competing unattached during the 2015 outdoor season. She also finished 11th in the discus at 45.85m (150-5).

Competing in the senior championship, Murphy took 17th in the javelin with a throw of 45.70m (149-11), wrapping up her sophomore season which saw her earn First Team All-American and Second Team All-Big Ten honors.

Incoming freshman Erin Huls joined Spagnola and Sabin in competing at the junior championship. She finished ninth in the 400m hurdles preliminary in 1:00.66, just one place shy of advancing to the final.

Four Gopher alumni also competed at the USATF Senior Championships. Heather Kampf and Gabriele Grunewald took seventh and 13th, respectively, in the 1,500m final. They each ran top-nine times in the 1,500m prelim, including Kampf's 4:09.02 to rank fourth.

Fellow alum Jamie Cheever competed in the 3,000m steeplechase. After advancing to the final with the 13th-fastest preliminary time (10:02.71), Cheever ran 9:56.74 to finish 12th in the final.

Liz Podominick competed in the discus but fouled all three attempts.

In addition to the Gophers competing at the USATF Championships, fellow Gopher Titania Markland raced at the Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association National Senior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica, over the weekend. Markland finished 11th in the 400m dash with a time of 54.07 in the semifinals.
