This Friday we welcome breaststroke swimmer Kaela Marcus from Placerville, California. Marcus will be joining Minnesota from El Dorado High School and AqualSol Swim Club. Her favorite race is the 200-yard breaststroke. Catch up with the incoming freshman in this week's Q&A:
Gopher Sports: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
Kayla Marcus: I have a lot of family in Minnesota, and every single time I visit, I cannot believe how at home I feel. My visit to the University was no different. I fell in love with the campus, the amazing coaching staff, the people that I got to know on the team, and the academics that are offered. I am still unsure of what I want to do as far as a career goes, but I am confident that I can find something that I love to do at Minnesota.
GS: What are you looking forward to the most with starting your collegiate career as a Golden Gopher?
KM: It has been a huge dream of mine for the last couple of years to compete for a Division I swim program, and I am so excited to continue to grow as both a student and an athlete at the U. I want to push myself as far as I can go, and I know that Minnesota is going to help me do that.
GS: Thus far, what has been your best or most proud swimming memory?
KM: Last summer for our end of season meet, I had a great weekend with 100% best times, and it was just an awesome culmination of the summer of hard work I had put in.
GS: What do you like to do for fun outside of the pool?
KM: I love to hang out with my sister Allison, she's my best friend and we do pretty much everything together. I'm going to miss her so much when I move! I also love to be outside and hike, boat and water ski.
GS: How do you think you will contribute to the Gopher swimming and diving program?
KM: I'm competitive, I'm driven and I love to work hard.
GS: What else would you like to share with the Gopher Family?
KM: I am so excited to have the opportunity to be part of such an incredible program, go Gophers!
