This Friday we welcome incoming freshman Hunter Doerr to Minnesota Swimming and Diving! Doerr is a sprint freestyle specialist and his favorite race is the 100 fly. He will join the Gophers from Air Academy High School and Colorado Springs Swim Team.
Gopher Sports: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
Hunter Doerr: I thought it was an incredible opportunity with outstanding academics and athletics. My dad attended the U, and my grandparents and many other relatives live within an hour drive so I knew I would feel just as at home as the in-state attendants.
GS: What are you looking forward to the most with starting your collegiate career as a Golden Gopher?
HD: I look forward to challenging courses as a student to pursue my Med-School dreams, and I also look to teammates who will help me and I will help to make a better swimming program.
GS: Thus far, what has been your best or most proud swimming memory?
HD: My best moment as a swimmer was two weeks ago when I made an Olympic Trials cut in the 50 free un-tapered. I know I have much more in the tank.
GS: What do you like to do for fun outside of the pool?
HD: I play football with my friends every so often. I play and teach piano, and I am learning guitar. I play a lot of board games and a few video games when I'm "laying low" after a practice.
GS: How do you think you will contribute to the Gopher swimming and diving program?
HD: I hope to make the travel team, go to the Big Ten Conference Championships and score points. I also know I can bring a good work ethic and attitude, which I am sure the team is not lacking, but I will it bring any way!
