Earlier this month, a pair of Minnesota rising sophomores were recognized for their work beyond the course and in the classroom. Sabrine Garrison and Celia Kuenster were each named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.

Among the most stringent selection criteria in college athletics, WGCA All-American Scholars must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.50. The two Gopher student-athletes were among the 758 total women's collegiate golfers in the nation recognized with the honor.

The selection of Garrison and Kuenster to this award marks the sixth and seventh individual Gopher women's golfer to receive academic honors in 2014-15. Although the freshmen were not eligible for Academic All-Big Ten honors, five of their teammates earned the award in seniors Carmen Laguna, Anna Laorr and Sarinee Thitiratanakorn and sophomores Alexandra Buska and Emie Peronnin. Laorr and Peronnin were further recognized by the conference as B1G Distinguished Scholar Award recipients.

As a team, the Minnesota women's golf team was one of eight Gopher programs to earn a perfect multi-year APR score of 1,000, along with earning an APR Public Recognition Award for scoring in the top 10 percent of their sport nationally.
