Fresh off its season-opening tournament at home, the Minnesota women's golf team travels to Knoxville, Tenn., this week to take part in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships. The two-day, three-round event will be played on Monday and Tuesday at the par-70, 5,958-yard Cherokee Country Club.
Minnesota will send five Gophers to the Volunteer State in its lineup: sophomores Celia Kuenster, Sabrine Garrison and Heather Ciskowski, junior Emie Peronnin and freshman Niamh Ward. Kuenster is coming off a medalist performance at the Minnesota Invitational Tuesday, where she captured her first career win.
Garrison, Ciskowski and Peronnin, meanwhile, each recorded top-50 finishes. Ward, who competed as an individual and finished tied for 44th at the Minikahda Club, makes her debut to the team lineup.
The tournament features 14 Division I teams, including fellow Big Ten members Illinois, Maryland and Ohio State. Rounding out the field alongside the host Tennessee Volunteers are Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Florida, Iowa State, Kent State, Kentucky, N.C. State, UNLV and South Dakota State.
Action begins Monday morning with a 8:30 a.m. ET/7:30 a.m. CT shotgun start, where teams will play 36 holes before a final round shotgun start Tuesday morning at the same time.
