Gophers in the NFL: Week 3

A plethora of former Gophers saw action this week in the NFL with many of them impacting their respective games.
The oldest former Gopher, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Matt Spaeth, played on offense and special teams as the team traveled to St. Louis. The Steelers beat the St. Louis Rams, 12-6.
Tight end Marqueis Gray, a former Minnesota quarterback, played on special teams for the Buffalo Bills. The Bills cruised to a 41-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins.
Former Gopher defensive tackle Ra'shede Hageman saw action on defense for the Atlanta Falcons against the Dallas Cowboys. Hageman played against former Minnesota teammate Damien Wilson, who saw action on special teams for the Cowboys. The Falcons came back from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat the Cowboys, 39-28.
Safety Brock Vereen competed on defense for the Chicago Bears against the Seattle Seahawks. Vereen and the Bears fell to the Seahawks, 20-0.
Minnesota Vikings punt return specialist and former Gopher Marcus Sherels enjoyed a nice day running back punts. Sherels returned three punts for a total of 36 yards, including a 20-yard return. The Vikings defeated the San Diego Chargers, 31-14.
Maxx Williams of the Baltimore Ravens posted career highs against the Cincinnati Bengals. The former Minnesota tight end hauled in three catches for 44 yards. This marks the first multi-reception game of Williams short NFL career. The Ravens would go on to lose to the Bengals, 28-24.
The Gophers all-time leading receiver Eric Decker did not suit up for New York Jets against the Philadelphia Eagles. Decker suffered a PCL sprain in his last game against the Indianapolis Colts. Without Decker, the Jets lost to the Eagles, 24-17.
Rookie running back David Cobb is on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list. He will be eligible to play week 8 for the Tennessee Titans.
