Gophers in the Polls: September 29

Last week marked an exciting week for Gopher Athletics, as several programs maintained a spot in the polls while others jumped up after big victories. Below is how the Gophers' teams currently rank nationally.

Women's Hockey - #1 (USCHO.com), #1 (USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine)

Last Week: The top-ranked and defending national champion Gophers defeated the Minnesota Whitecaps, 5-4, in a home exhibition game last Friday.

Coming Up: Minnesota officially begins their season this week in a Thursday-Friday series at Penn State. Following that, the team returns to Ridder Arena next weekend for a two-game set against St. Cloud State.

Men's Hockey - #9 (USCHO.com)

Coming Up: The Gophers, who were also chosen second in the Big Ten's preseason poll, open their 2015-16 campaign at home on Oct. 10, hosting Vermont in the 2015 Hall of Fame Game at Mariucci Arena.

Soccer - #11

Last Week: The red-hot Gophers ran their unbeaten streak to six straight after knocking off Indiana at home on Sunday. Preceded by a 3-1 home win over Purdue on Friday night, Minnesota now sits 4-0-0 in Big Ten play and 9-1-2 overall.

This Week: A three-match road trip begins for the Maroon and Gold, beginning on Friday evening in Madison as the Gophers visit Wisconsin.

Women's Swimming & Diving - #13

Coming Up: The Gophers will officially open their season on Saturday, traveling to Tallahassee for a meet against Florida State which begins at 9:00 a.m. CT.

Volleyball -- #16

Last Week: The Gophers went 1-1 on the road, knocking off then-No. 12 Ohio State on Wednesday before falling in five sets at top-ranked Penn State on Saturday.

Coming Up: Minnesota is back home at the Sports Pavilion, hosting Northwestern on Wednesday and seventh-ranked Illinois on Saturday, both 7 p.m. starts.

Women's Golf - #22 (Golfweek)

Last Week: The Gophers were idle after playing their first two tournaments.

Coming Up: Minnesota returns to the links next Monday and Tuesday, taking part in the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Wilmette, Ill.

Women's Cross Country - #23

Last Week: Minnesota placed third at home in the 30th Annual Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, with all five scoring runners placing in the top 50.

Coming Up: The Gophers will travel to two different events this week, taking part in the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invite on Friday along with the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday.
