Cross Country Camp Blog: Day 2
9/4/2015 12:00:00 AM | Men's Cross Country
Training never ends for the University of Minnesota men's cross country program, and this week is no different for the Gophers.
While Minnesota celebrated a team and individual title on Tuesday night at the Bob Timmons Dual Classic, Wednesday morning saw the team wake up in Lawrence, Kan., and fall asleep in Nevis, Minn., as the team took off for its annual preseason camp in Northern Minnesota.
Aaron Bartnik (photos) and Riley Macon (notes and quotes) checked in on Thursday as the Gophers spent their second day at camp.

"Today, we woke up early and headed north to Itsaca State Park for a long run -- most of us ran between 16 and 18 miles. The park offers us extensive amounts of soft surface trails through the forest surrounding the headwaters of the Mississippi River. It's absolutely one of my favorite runs all year."

"After a great effort from all the guys, we cooled off in the lake. When we got back to camp, most of the guys used the next couple hours to relax and nap. Our massage therapist, Gregg, has been at camp the last couple days, so guys were getting massages throughout the day. Charlie and Obsa found themselves in the hammock!"

"After recharging, a good group of guys duked it out on the beach playing volleyball. I wish I could say that all of us were fantastic players, but I can tell you firsthand that was not the case. Despite that, we had a boatload of fun."
|
"We played more volleyball while waiting for the football game to start later in the night, and the guys recreated scenes from Top Gun."
"We immediately hopped into the lake where Charlie and Brad decided to swim across the lake while Wayde and I chased them in the kayaks. Also, Adam and Obsa went out sailing."

"Our four freshmen (Shane Streich, Evan Ferlic, Connor Olson, Joey Duerr) arrived towards the end of the night after attending Welcome Week on campus. It'll be great getting to know them better throughout the week. They're a great addition to the program, and we're looking forward to having them on the team."

"We capped off the day watching the big Gophers/TCU game together and playing dominoes in the office of Belle Shores resort. All in all it was another fantastic day at camp!"
