Sophomore Tristan Duran is ranked No. 1 in the country on High Bar

Gophers Move to No. 7, Duran No. 1

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team is ranked No. 7 nationally after a 424.500 performance at the Windy City Invitational on Sunday and sophomore Tristan Duran is ranked No. 1 in the country on High Bar.

Oklahoma earned the top team honors with an average and high team score of 448.350. Stanford, Illinois, Ohio State, California and Penn State all comprise the top six, respectively.

On each event, Minnesota earned high team rankings: No. 8 on Floor (71.100), No. 5 on Pommel Horse (68.600), No. 5 on Still Rings (71.650), No. 7 on Vault (72.700), No. 11 on Parallel Bars and tied for No. 3 on High Bar with Iowa (71.500).

After 15.400 performance on High Bar that earned him the event title on Sunday, Duran is ranked as the No. 1 gymnast in the country on the event. Sophomore Jalon Stephens also made the top five with a No. 4 ranking after earning a 15.000. Senior Paul Montague Jr. earned a 14.800 to qualify him for the No. 7 spot nationally.

Sophomore Yaroslav Pochinka is ranked No. 10 on Vault after earning a 15.100. Junior Zach Liebler also cracked the top 20 at No. 17 with a 14.950. The Pine Island, Minn. native is also tied for third nationally on Floor, along with Hunter Justus of Oklahoma, after he earned the event title with a 15.650 on Sunday.

On Still Rings, Montague is in a three-way tie for 10th in the nation with Andrew Botto of Iowa and Colin Mahar of Michigan. The three gymnasts tallied a 14.750 on Sunday. The Hartland, Wis. native is also ranked No. 10 on Pommel Horse (14.500).

The Maroon and Gold will host the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday in the 2016 home opener. Action is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Sports Pavilion.
