Last weekend, Minnesota treated the home crowd at the Sports Pavilion to its second consecutive Sunday afternoon victory with a come-from-behind win over Purdue, 23-18. The win pushed the Gophers over .500 for the season, both overall (7-6) and in the conference (3-2).
After a Brandon Kingsley decision at 157 pounds put the Gophers up 3-0, a string of three straight bonus point losses had Minnesota facing a daunting 15-3 deficit with one match remaining until halftime.
Brett Pfarr got the Gophers back on track with a major decision heading into the intermission and Minnesota would win the next four after the break, starting with major decision from Michael Kroells. Steve Polakowski and Tommy Thorn each added decisions that sandwiched the dramatic, first-period pin at 133 pounds by Ben Morgan that put the Gophers on top to stay.
Minnesota will rack up the miles in the next three weeks as it hits the road for its next four Big Ten duals, beginning this Friday with an 8 p.m. match against No. 2 Iowa. That dual will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
