Gophers Set to Host Cornhuskers

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team, now ranked No. 5 in the nation, will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the UMN Club Team on Saturday at the Sports Pavilion. Action is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.

THE OPPONENT
Nebraska travels to Minneapolis after a record-breaking performance against Air Force. The Cornhuskers broke six school records, including highest team total in school history in an impressive 434.300-425.950 victory over the Falcons. Sophomore Kyle King and senior Ethan Lottman set program records on Floor (15.850) and Pommel Horse (15.550), respectively. Nebraska's performance on Floor (74.800), Pommel Horse (72.700) and High Bar (72.700) were the best in school history.
Coming off their historic meet, the Cornhuskers are ranked No. 3 on Floor, No. 6 on Parallel Bars, No. 7 on Pommel Horse and High Bar, No. 9 on Vault and No. 11 on Still Rings.
Minnesota and Nebraska met three different times during the 2014-2015 season with the Gophers winning each meeting by scores of 429.900, 433.600 and 434.000, respectively.
Sophomore Yaroslav Pochinka and junior Zach Liebler each claimed one event title throughout the three meets - Pochinka on Vault and Liebler on Floor.
LAST TIME OUT
The Maroon and Gold earned their first victory of the season last weekend as the Gophers outperformed Penn State, 431.950-418.500.
Liebler performed exceptionally well, earning Big Ten Gymnast of the week for his performance. He placed first on Floor with a 15.850. Pochinka earned top honors on Vault with a 15.350. Sophomore Jalon Stephens claimed top honors for High Bar with a 14.600. Freshman Justin Karstadt earned the highest mark on Pommel Horse with a 14.900. Senior Paul Montague finished first on Parallel Bars with a 14.950 and sophomore Tristan Duran earned the All-Around title after tallying a 85.400.
As a team, the Gophers scored over 70 on all but one event: 74.850 on Floor, 74.250 on Vault, 71.800 on Still Rings, 70.700 on Pommel Horse, 72.100 on Parallel Bars and 69.050 on High Bar.
LIBELER BIG TEN HONOR
On Monday, Libeler earned his first Big Ten weekly honor as he was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week.
The Pine Island native earned a career high mark of 15.850 while also earning second place on Vault with a mark of 15.000.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next weekend, the Maroon and Gold will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take on the Air Force Falcons. Action is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
