Postgame Quotes
Penn State at Minnesota
Head Coach Marlene Stollings
On the game…
"I would like to credit our young ladies for getting a win in the home opener. I thought that offensively we were as sharp as we've been probably all season. I really liked our guard play."
"Penn State is a very talented team. They're coming off an upset from No. 14 in the nation. This is a big win for us to start off our home slate here in Big Ten play."
On Carlie Wagner's play…
"I'm really proud of Carlie. She's one of our hardest workers and it's nice to see her have a game at such a high level, especially from the 3-point line. She's just so strong out there. You can tell that she's got a ton of Big Ten experience. Her confidence and poise was just solid today."
On Minnesota's defense…
"We did have a few hiccups obviously, but we didn't have the length of let down that we had at Rutgers."
On Jessie Edwards' play…
"Very pleased with Jessie getting 22 points and eight rebounds for us. That's huge and it will be throughout Big Ten play. Jessie had the game of the year, for her."
Sophomore Guard Carlie Wagner
On her career game…
"I actually had a crappy warm up. I wasn't hitting too many threes. But the game started and I hit my first one. I think it gave me confidence so I just kept shooting."
Sophomore Center Jessie Edwards
On her career-high 22 points…
"I felt really good out there playing today. I felt like I was really in the zone for the whole game and just able to focus on the team and scoring."
Penn State Head Coach Coquese Washington
On if it's too soon to evaluate the change in quarters…
"I don't think so. I think the early returns are quite positive. I've enjoyed it, I've enjoyed the quarters. The pace of play has increased. Our fans seem to enjoy it. And when you add the quarters to the rules changes, a lot of them are open flow and less physical play. I think you see a game like tonight, that's a game you want to see."
On how to stop Carlie Wagner…
"Well, obviously we didn't do enough. We lost her quite a few times in transition. They run some good stuff, some misdirection stuff, and got her open. And we had some miscommunications on some screens and how we want to guard her. She's a fantastic talent, and I think she's one of the most creative, and one of the top-scoring guards in our conference. She tough, and when she gets going early, it's hard to stop her. So she played a great game tonight, and I just think she's a fantastic talent."
On Penn State having good long range shooting…
"Yeah, I think it probably is. I don't know the numbers. But I think we're a pretty good 3-point shooting team. We shoot better than our percentage. I think we really got the ball going. But you know, we just have to have a little more balance on offense, inside and outside."
