The team closed out our third day here in Oahu. So far, we have remained unscathed, not regarding a bit of pink on our skin and a little appetite boost.
We start each morning with an hour and a half of dry land punctuated by a Gideon Louw ab workout. Next we are in the pool for two hours letting our tan lines develop as we put in some of our best training of the year. Our morning sets have ranged from 12x100 max effort to 4000m of IM. Somehow, the coaches always manage to also sneak in a little kick set that leaves us limping out of the pool. On most days, we are back at it again at night, just after sunset.
Throughout each day, the main challenges are limiting our beach time and conjuring up a satisfying amount of food. We spent our free time during the first two days exploring Waikiki and taking advantage of the available surf tacos and Hawaiian Ice. Today, our gracious van drivers took the distance swimmers and female sprinters to the picturesque Lanaki Beach. We swam, snorkeled, and sunbathed to our heart's content.
We Gophers plan to keep training and tanning hard this week before we face off against Hawaii on Saturday. Everyone is excited to be kicking off 2016 with a solid workload under our belts, putting us in a the best position for championship season.
