Around the Bases with Ben Mezzenga

Ben Mezzenga is a first-year player who came to the University of Minnesota from Shoreview, Minn. The freshman infielder was a standout as a high school player at Totino-Grace that included two seasons batting over .500 at the dish. Mezzenga was an all-conference selection and swiped over 45 bases during his tenure with the Eagles. Gopher Sports caught up with the rookie.
Gopher Sports: Do you have any special talents outside of baseball?
Ben Mezzenga: I can play the Ukulele.
GS: What is the best thing about being a collegiate baseball player?
BM: Being able to represent my school, and the atmosphere.
GS: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
BM: I grew up watching the Gophers and always wanted to be one.
GS: What MLB hitter/pitcher would you most like to face?
BM: Chapman because it would be interesting to face a 100 mph fastball.
GS: Who is your favorite superhero?
BM: Batman because he never kills anyone, but still defeats to enemy.
GS: What MLB ballpark would you love to play a game in?
BM: Fenway because of the history that has happened there.
GS: Who is the biggest prankster on the team?
BM: Not sure, but the person that gets pranked the most is Tyler Hanson by far.
