The Golden Gophers swimming program will open 2016 competition this Saturday, Jan. 9 against the Rainbow Warriors. The Gopher swimmers arrived in Hawaii on January 1, 2016 for their annual winter training trip.
MATCH-UP REWIND
Last year's dual vs. Hawaii resulted in a "W" for both the Minnesota men's and women's teams. Highlighting the day were several 1-2-3 finishes, en route to winning 25 out of 28 events. Brooke Zeiger led the women with three individual event wins, taking home the gold in the 1000 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 IM. Teammate Lauren Votava won the women's 100 free and 200 free events for the Gophers as well. Daryl Turner had a pair of first place finishes in the men's 100 back and 50 free.
LAST TIME OUT
Minnesota last hosted the Jean K. Freeman Invite in early December. The two-day meet offered a chance for some to swim off events, while others rested before racing. The meet included 15 schools, and was not scored. The Gopher women enter 2016 with a record of 3-1-1, while the Minnesota men hold a 2-3 record.
ON THE DOCKET
The Gophers will continue training in the Aloha State before heading to Denver, Colorado for a matchup against Denver and BYU.
