Golden Gopher Nikki Albrecht has been named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's midseason edition of the top 100 female freshmen in the nation. Albrecht was tabbed No. 43 overall, and is the fourth-highest ranked rookie in the Big Ten Conference.
"Every game Nikki seems to get more confident with her decisions on the ball and with her defensive positioning," associate head coach Krystle Seidel said. "She will be a huge player for us as we close the 2016 campaign, and we look forward to the career we know she will have in the years to come."
Albrecht is a part of the Minnesota defense that has tallied nine shutouts this season, including five in conference play. The Cedarburg, Wisc. native is the only rookie in Minnesota's starting lineup and has started in each game this season.
Seidel believes Albrecht has brought incredible physicality to the Gophers' backline in her first season. She has built up to 90-minute play in several games. On the attack, Albrecht has also scored two goals and an assist.
"Our motto this year 'this moment, our time' implies that we focus on the present," Albrecht said. "I'm focusing on my team, my role and what I need to do to be successful each day. I'm looking forward to each opportunity I get to improve my game and I look forward to the next opponent."
Minnesota travels to Michigan State (Oct. 13) and Michigan (Oct. 16) this week to continue conference play.
