Gold Team Takes 2-0 Lead In Steak 'N Beans

The Gold team defeated the Maroon team 2-1 Friday night to take a 2-0 lead in the best out of three games Steak `N Beans series at Siebert Field.
Gold jumped out to a lead right away in the top of the first inning. Ben Mezzenga led off with a single then stole second base before scoring on a Micah Coffey single.
Mezzenga scored the second run of the game for the Gold team in the sixth inning. He walked then stole second and third base allowing him to score on an error. Mezzenga finished the game with four stolen bases.
The lone run for the Maroon team came in the second inning when Toby Hanson scored off the bat of Luke Pettersen.
Mezzenga led the Gold team going 3-5 with one walk. Pettersen was 2-3 for the Maroon team while Jordan Kozicky walked twice. Alex Boxwell reached base once for Maroon and stole their only base.
Lucas Gilbreath started on the bump for Gold and struck out one batter. Tim Shannon came out of the bullpen and allowed only two hits. Alex Farley closed off the game for Gold facing four batters, striking out one.
Maroon started Toby Anderson on the mound and he threw three innings where he struck out two batters. Jeff Fasching took over for Anderson in the fourth inning and struck out three batters and only allowed two hits. Jake Stevenson was the third pitcher to take the mound for Maroon and he allowed only two hits.
Game three will start at 1 p.m. today at Siebert Field, weather permitting. Admission is free.
