Maroon Wins Game Three, Gold Wins Series

The Maroon team defeated the Gold team 4-3 in the final game of the Steak 'N Beans series at Siebert Field. The Gold team claimed the 2016 Steak 'N Beans title, winning the series 2-1.
The Gold squad put up two runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the sixth inning on their way to a game three victory.
Maroon matched with two runs in the fourth but only scored one run in the sixth inning. The split squad match-up was seven innings.
Cole McDevitt led the Maroon team with two RBIs on a single. Jordan Kozicky drove in one run on a double and scored two runs for Maroon. The other RBI came from Luke Pettersen who was 1-3 with a single. Eddie Estrada picked up a stolen base in the win.
Senior Jordan Smith hit a solo home run for the Gold squad but the other two runs were scored on errors. Jack Wassel scored on an error to shortstop while Eli Wilson scored on an error to second base.
Ben Mezzenga was 1-2 with a double and two walks for Gold. The Gold team collected three hits and five walks in the loss to Maroon.
Jackson Rose started on the mound for Maroon. He didn't allow an earned run and struck out one batter. Freshman Sam Bridges then game in for Maroon and did not allow a run. Fred Manke closed out the game for Maroon, allowing one run on Smith's solo home run.
Gold sent out freshman Nolan Burchill to the mound to start the day. He struck out three batters and only walked on batter. Nick Lackney then came in and also struck out three batters. Manke then pitched for the Gold team and allowed one hit.
The end of the Steak 'N Beans marks the end of fall practice for the Gophers.
