Ollila Leads Gophers at Neubauer Invitational

ETTRICK, Wis. - Naomi Ollila, Ally Smith, and Sarah Klecker led the Golden Gopher women's cross country team with top-20 individual finishes at the Tori Neubauer Invitational hosted by UW-La Crosse Saturday morning at Ettrick Golf Club.
All eleven Gophers racing for the University of Minnesota recorded career-best or season-best performances to secure a third-place team finish in a field of 335 individuals from 22 teams. The Gophers took third with 117 points behind host UW-La Crosse (36 points) and Nebraska Wesleyan with 97 points. Rounding out the top five teams were St. Olaf College (126) and Iowa Central (151).
Ollila paced the Gophers in 14th place in a season-best 23:14.95 followed by Smith in a season-best 23:20.53 for 17th place. Klecker ran a personal-best 23:21.20 in 18th place. Abby Lange (23:37.48) and Paige Peschel (23:48.67) also finished within Minnesota's top five individuals with career-best times.
Three more Gophers clocked personal bests in Liz Miller (23:52.21), Madeline Brighouse Glueck (24:18.10), and Anne Haakenstad (25:43.51), who completed her first 6K race of her Gopher career.
Minnesota also ran at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational this weekend where all 18 Gophers ran career- or season-best times. Led by Megan Hasz (28th), Bethany Hasz (42nd), and Madeline Strandemo (55th), the Gophers finished 16th of 31 teams in the team standings.
Up next for Minnesota is three-straight home meets, beginning with Jack's Twilight Run. The Gophers will host the annual meet in honor of the late Minnesota equipment manager Jack Johnson at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 21.
The 6K race is open to the public. This year marks the ninth annual running of Jack's Twilight Run, which features a spectator-friendly looped route through Les Bolstad Course.
Following Jack's Run, the Gophers host the 2016 Big Ten Conference Cross Country Championship (Sunday, Oct. 30) and Rocky's Run (Sunday, Nov. 6) at Les Bolstad Course.
