In the latest Gopher Talk junior offensive lineman Chad Fahning talks what o-lineman has the best hair, favorite place in the Twin Cities, best dancer on the team and much more!
Gopher Sports: What do you like to do outside of football?
Chad Fahning: I consider myself sort of a political junkie. My undergrad degree is in political science, so outside of football I like to keep up with what's going on. I find that stuff interesting. I like to listen to political podcasts and hear people's opinions on politics. This election year in particular has been crazy so I've enjoyed keeping up on it. I like to talk politics with the strength coaches particularly. Besides that, I like to get out and explore the city. My roommate and I like to check out the best spots in Minneapolis when we can.
GS: If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
CF: Teleportation. I really want to travel when I'm done with football. There are a lot of cool places in the world I want to visit. It would also let me sleep in ten minutes later when I have morning class and would help me save on gas money.
GS: Which offensive lineman has the best hair? Why?
CF: It's tough but it has to be Jonah. He's been growing it out for like four years. There are a lot of linemen with pretty sick flow, but Jonah definitely has the best. Personally, I probably have the worst hair of all the lineman. I like to think I have the best facial hair though. What I lack in hair I make up with my beard.
GS: What is your favorite place in the Twin Cities area?
CF: I'm a hometown guy, so I like meeting up with my dad at Mickeys Diner in downtown St. Paul. That's my favorite spot to eat outside of campus. That place has some really good food, but I like to go there because of the people who work there. The servers are characters and have some pretty crazy stories.
GS: If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only watch one movie, what would it be and why?
CF: Forrest Gump is a great movie. I could watch that movie a hundred times and I'd still love it. Tom Hanks has to be the best actor of all time.
GS: What's your favorite kind of music?
CF: I really like all kinds of music. I always liked early 2000s hip-hop, but I also started to like country more when I got to college. I also enjoy listening to classic rock. I like to listen to EDM when I workout but I also like classical music when I study. It's a wide range, and it depends on what I'm doing I guess.
GS: What's your favorite show on Netflix to binge watch?
CF: I really don't watch Netflix a whole lot, but a former teammate got me into House of Cards and I got addicted. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are fantastic in it. I got so excited when the last season came out, I finished it in a weekend. Besides that I haven't been too committed to one show. I heard Scandal is good, so I might start that soon.
GS: Who's got the best dance moves on the team?
CF: Bronson Dovich actually. He doesn't dance much but when he does he kills it. He's a funny kid and dances like it. That kid always makes me smile.
GS: If you had to choose any actor to portray you in a movie who would you choose and why?
CF: I would love if Zack Galifianakis portrayed me. I can relate to his type of humor and he's already got the facial hair.
GS: What's one thing you could not live without?
CF: Well I'm actually a Type 1 Diabetic, so living without insulin would be pretty tough in a literal sense. Food and water are important too. In a less literal sense, I'd have a tough time living without a phone. I like to call my grandma when I get a chance. She always makes my day better.
