Gophers in the Polls: October 19

Gopher Hockey teams moved up and wrestling entered the group of top-25 Minnesota athletic programs. Below is a summary of each team, and tickets for all upcoming home events are available by visiting mygophersports.com.

Volleyball - #3

Last Week: Minnesota fell to then-No. 14 Michigan State in five sets, last Saturday, in East Lansing, Mich., following a sweep of then-No. 1 Wisconsin on Wednesday night in Madison.

This Week: The Gophers close out their extensive road trip in which seven of eight matches took place away from home, as the Maroon and Gold travel to Iowa and Nebraska this Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Women's Hockey - #2

Last Week: Minnesota (5-1-0, 3-1-0-0 WCHA) swept No. 4 Minnesota Duluth at home last weekend. The Gophers won 4-3 in game one before securing a 3-2 overtime win in game two. Following a three-goal effort against the Bulldogs, sophomore forward Sarah Potomak was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week.

This Week: Minnesota travels to Columbus, Ohio, for a WCHA series at Ohio State this weekend. Puck drop is set for 5:07 p.m. CT Friday and 2:07 p.m. CT Saturday.

Men's Hockey - #7

Last Week: The Gophers unofficially opened up Mariucci Arena last Friday with a 9-0 exhibition win over the U.S. Under-18 Team. Twelve Gophers had points in the win including eight skaters with multi-point games.

Coming Up: Minnesota returns to action this weekend with a home-and-home series against in-state rival and 14th-ranked St. Cloud State. The Gophers host the regular-season opener against the Huskies on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. CT before heading up to St. Cloud for the series finale on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.

Wrestling - #9

Preseason: Minnesota earned the number-nine spot in the Intermat Dual Meet Rankings.

Coming Up: The Gophers open their season on the mat on Sunday, November 6, traveling to Brookings, S.D., for the Warren Williamson / Daktronics Open.

Soccer - #13

Last Week: The Gophers notched a 2-1 victory at Michigan State on Thursday night before playing Michigan to a scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon in Ann Arbor. Goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs tallied three saves in the match to record her 30th career shutout, breaking her program record again.

This Week: The Gophers are scheduled to face No. 22 Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. on Saturday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.

Also Receiving Votes: The Gopher men's and women's cross country teams are also receiving votes in their respective polls.
