Be There on Wednesday when Minnesota Goes for the Big Ten Title
The No. 13 Golden Gophers tied No. 23 Northwestern in a 0-0 double overtime decision on Saturday night at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium in Evanston, Ill. Minnesota (12-3-3, 6-1-3), Northwestern and Penn State are tied for first place in the Big Ten Conference standings with just one game left in the regular season.
"These women were able to fight through a lot of adversity tonight," head coach Stefanie Golan said. "Northwestern is certainly a disciplined and organized team defensively."
Minnesota's attack led the game in shots (16-11), and both the Gophers and Wildcats posted four shots on goal. Simone Kolander led the team with four shots, two on goal. Josee Stiever also had two shots on goal.
"We were creating opportunities throughout the game, and really turned things on in the second half and through both overtime periods," Golan said.
Goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs tallied four saves in the 110-minute match for her 31st career shutout.
April Bockin made her first appearance since the shutout over Iowa. Bockin was out for three games due to an ankle injury.
The Gophers will play for a share of the Big Ten Conference regular season title against Maryland at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are available at mygophersports.com.
