Two Gophers in Top-20 After First Round

Oct. 23, 2016 SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - On a day when just two players shot below par, sophomore Maggie Heggerston leads the Minnesota women's golf team through 18 holes at the Cardinal Cup.
Heggerston is tied for 13th with an opening-round 76 (+4), with teammate Emie Peronnin one stroke behind in a tie for 18th, after the senior fired a 5-over-par 77 today. Junior Heather Ciskowski is tied for 69th following a first-round 82 (+10), with sophomore Muyu Wu (84) and junior Sabrine Garrison (85) rounding out the lineup in ties for 77th and 86th respectively.
Individual competitor Niamh Ward is tied for 77th place after carding an 84 in the first round.
As a team, the Gophers are tied with Columbia for 11th among the 16-team field, finishing the first round with a team score of 31-over-par 319. Florida State has the team lead at 301, 13-over-par, while Kentucky's Jordan Chael and Illinois's Bing Singhsumalee are atop the leaderboard at 1-under-par 71.
