Longbella in Top 10 After Day One at Royal Oaks

DALLAS, TEXAS--- The Gophers are tied for eighth place after the first two rounds of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. They shot 728 overall (+18).
Seeking the first top-10 finish of his career, freshman Thomas Longbella leads the way for Minnesota and sits tied for 10th after the first day. He carded a 1-under 141 after birdying four of his last eight holes in the final round of the day.
Justin Doeden and Rúnar Arnorsson each carded 145 on the day and are tied for 30th. Doeden recorded the best score in the opening round for the Maroon and Gold, scoring 1-under-par 70. He will look to climb the leaderboard tomorrow in search of his fourth straight top-20 finish.
Peter Jones and Riley Johnson round out the Gopher lineup, scoring 151 and 152 respectively. Jones is in 59th while Johnson sits in 62nd.
William Leaf improved in his second round of the day to finish with 153 and in 65th. Competing as an individual, Matt Rachey is tied with Johnson and others for 62nd.
Host Baylor lead the field carding a commanding 27-under-par 683. The Bears' Matthew Perrine and Pepperdine's Roy Cootes are tied for the individual lead at 7 under.
The final round tees off tomorrow at 8:15 a.m.
