The United States' Ryder Cup victory not only took place in Minnesota, but also had a Golden Gophers tie. University of Minnesota graduate Tom Lehman served as a vice-captain for the first American win in the event since 2008.

With a score of 17-11, the U.S. achieved its largest margin of victory since 1981. The team led 9 1/2 to 6 1/2 entering Sunday and picked up six wins and a halved match to seal the win.

Lehman previously played on the 1995, 1997 and 1999 U.S. Ryder Cup teams. The 1996 British Open champion was captain of the 2006 squad.

At the U of M, Lehman was an All-Big Ten and All-America performer. He qualified for the 1979, 1980 and 1981 NCAA Championships.
