Five Gophers to Compete Against Team USA

Five Golden Gophers are on the Big Ten's roster for next month's USA College Challenge, and Kelly Kremer will be one of the women's coaches Big Ten swimmers will compete against members of the U.S. National Team Nov. 12-13 in Indianapolis.
Lindsey Horejsi, Jakub Maly, Conner McHugh, Kierra Smith and Brooke Zeiger will represent Minnesota on the conference roster.
Horejsi is a freshman who set a national high school record last year in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Minnesota native competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials this summer in Omaha.
Maly holds the Gophers' short course individual medley records. In addition to three trips to the NCAA Championships, the senior has international experience competing for Austria's national team.
McHugh holds Minnesota's school records in the 100- and 200- breaststroke. He competed at the NCAA Championships last year as a sophomore after setting those records at the Big Ten Championships.
Smith competed against Team USA this past summer in Rio. The Canadian made the Olympic final in the 200-meter breaststroke, and also competed in the 100. The 2015 NCAA 200 breast champion returned to Minnesota for her senior year after taking last season off for Olympic training. She holds program records in the 100 (short course) and 200 breast (short course and long course).
Zeiger, a junior, is a four-time All-American who holds the Gophers' records in the 400 IM (short and long course) and 200 IM (long course). She advanced to 200 IM semifinals at the Olympic Trials.
Kremer is a five-time Big Ten Women's Swimming Coach of the Year. He has been on staff for eight total men's and women's conference titles, including the Gopher women's four consecutive championships 2012-15. Kremer has coached six Gophers who have made the Olympics, most recently Smith.
The meet will be held at the Indiana University Natatorium on IUPUI's campus. A running score will be kept, with men's and women's scores combined. Each athlete will be allowed to enter up to six races, including relays and individual events.
