Gophers in the Polls: October 5

A new top-ranked team in Maroon and Gold and much more highlight the Minnesota Golden Gophers ranked in the top-25. Below is a summary of each team, and tickets for all upcoming home events are available by visiting mygophersports.com.
Volleyball - #1
Last Week: The Gophers earned the top ranking in the AVCA poll on Monday after two road sweeps at Indiana and then-No. 14 Purdue. The Gophers are now 4-0 in Big Ten play and 12-1 overall, and also ranked second in the first edition of the NCAA RPI. Sophomore setter Samantha Seliger-Swenson (Minnetonka, MInn.) and Alexis Hart (Independence, Mo.) were named the Big Ten Conference's Setter and Rookie of the Week
This Week: The Gophers battle No. 14 Penn State, Wednesday night in State College, Pa. Minnesota returns home for a Sunday afternoon contest against Northwestern at the Sports Pavilion.
Women's Hockey - #2
Last Week: The Gophers kicked off their season with a sweep of the Lindenwood Lions. After hanging their 2016 National Championship banner Friday night, the Gophers shut out Lindenwood by a 3-0 margin and then followed Saturday with a 6-2 victory.
This Week: Minnesota opens conference play on the road at Bemidji State this weekend. Puck drop is set for 3:07 p.m. CT both Friday and Saturday at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn.
Men's Hockey - #13
Preseason: The three-time defending Big Ten champion Gopher Hockey program has been selected as the conference favorite in the 2016-17 Big Ten hockey preseason coaches' poll while Minnesota also led the league with four players on the Big Ten Watch List.
Coming Up: Minnesota opens the 2016-17 season on Oct. 7 against Alaska Anchorage and plays Alaska on Oct. 9 (both games will be played at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska).
Soccer - #17
Last Week: The Gophers dropped a hard-fought overtime decision, 1-0, to Wisconsin in their annual Border Battle Saturday night at the Robbie, falling to 9-3-1 on the season after suffering their first conference loss.
This Week: Minnesota will close out a three-game homestand this week as the Golden Gophers host Iowa on Thursday, Oct. 6 and Nebraska on Sunday, Oct. 9.
Also Receiving Votes: The Gopher men's and women's cross country teams and football teams are also receiving votes in their respective polls.
