We are spending time to find out our student-athletes favorite spots to hang out on campus. This week senior Sara Groenewegen is up. Her choice is a must see spot in the Twin Cities often featured on the Best of Minneapolis Twitter account.

SG: My favorite place near campus is the stone arch bridge. It is such a beautiful way to connect campus with the city skyline. Something I really miss about home is always having something to look at with the ocean, the trees and the mountains. Going to the bridge gives me an opportunity to see the river! There are a bunch of trails near the bridge that are always a fun adventure when looking for places to explore around the U.

Groenewegen has built a legacy during her time at Minnesota. She enters her senior season fifth all-time in Gophers history for most complete games with 60, fourth all-time for most wins with 76, fourth all-time for strikeouts with 907 and first all-time for no-hitters with six. She is also fifth all-time for home runs with 34.

She is just the fourth Gopher to ever earn All-American honors at least twice in a career and is just the third player in Big Ten history to win Big Ten Freshman, Pitcher and Player of the Year honors.

This summer Groenewegen was able to experience going to Japan with Team Canada. She talked to us about her experience and used her interest in video to create a video documenting her time there. You can check that out here.
