Ali Wins TC5K Title

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Five Gophers finished in the top seven at the 2016 TC5K on Saturday including individual champion Hamza Ali, who ran the fastest time ever by a Gopher at the course with a mark of 14:47.

Minnesota actually claimed the top three finishers with Owen Hoeft (14:57) and Jack Manderscheid (15:01) following Ali in second and third, respectively. Alex Plasencia finished fifth (15:30) while Hunter Staack added a seventh-place performance (15:50).

The five-kilometer race featured a field of 2,495 runners. All five Gophers ran as unattached competitors.

Ali is the second-straight Gopher to win the race following Eric Colvin's 2015 title.

The Maroon & Gold return to action with the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Friday, Oct. 14 while another group will be in action on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Jim Drews Invitational in Ettrick, Wis.
