USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's cross country team climbed to No. 26 in the nation in this week's USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association today.

Following its fourth-place showing at the Big Ten Conference Cross Country Championship last weekend, Minnesota is back among the nation's top-30 teams. The Gophers opened the season at No. 26, slipped to No. 28, climbed to a season-high ranking of No. 25, and then received votes in three-straight polls before getting back into the top 30 this week.

Minnesota is one of five Big Ten programs getting national attention, joining No. 5 Michigan, No. 9 Penn State, No. 22 Michigan State, and Ohio State (received votes) in representing the B1G.

No. 1 Colorado, No. 2 NC State, No. 3 Providence, No. 4 Washington, and No. 5 Michigan lead the week six poll.

In the Midwest Region rankings, the Gophers remain the third-ranked team in the region this week. Iowa State and Oklahoma are the region's top two ranked teams, respectively, and Missouri and Tulsa round out the top five behind the Gophers in third.

Minnesota hosts Rocky's Run this Sunday, Oct. 6 before traveling to Iowa City, Iowa, for the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, Nov. 11, where the Gophers will look to secure a 12th-straight bid to the NCAA Championships.

There will be one more USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll this season, due to come out Monday, Nov. 14. It will include results from the Regional Championships in preparation for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships five days later in Terre Haute, Ind.
