Softball Welcomes Five New Gophers

The University of Minnesota Gopher softball team will add five student-athletes to the 2017-18 roster.
"We are thrilled to announce the addition of Hannah, Macy, Ellee, Rachel, and Alex to the Gopher softball family," head coach Jessica Allister said. "This group is made up of tremendous students that will bring versatility, depth in the circle, speed and power to our roster. These five student-athletes are a great start to our 2017 recruiting class. Today is an exciting day for Gopher softball."
Hannah Bailey, a pitcher from Vista, Calif, is a three time All-Conference honoree and has been named the Conference Pitcher of the Year two times. She has a 1.67 ERA, 325 strikeouts, 40 wins and a batting average of .311 in her career.
Macy Gill, a utility player from Elkhart, Iowa, has posted an impressive career playing for the Iowa Blitz Gold club team. She has a career batting average of .476, has recorded 51 RBI and leads the organization with 91 career stolen bases. She is also a two-time state qualifier in the 4x100 and 4x200 and qualified for the prestigious Drake Track Relays in 2015.
Ellee Jensen, an outfielder from Watertown, Wis., has earned All-Conference honors in each of the last three years, was named to the All-State team the past two years and in 2016 was named the Wisconsin Fastpitch Division 1 Player of the Year. She owns a .666 batting average and 142 stolen bases in three seasons. On top of her softball accomplishments she has earned All-State honors three times in volleyball.
Rachel Lowary, a pitcher/utility player from Grimes, Iowa, has earned both All-Conference and All-State honors in each of the past four seasons. Lowary posted a 0.99 ERA as well as a .577 batting average last season. She is also impressive in the classroom winning Academic All-Conference honors four straight times.
Alex Velazquez, a true lefty outfielder, moved to Victoria, Minn. in August after growing up in Aurora, Colo. She has earned both All-Conference and All-State honors in each of the past two seasons. She is a one time state champion. Last season she led Grandview High School in batting average (.446), hits (25), runs (21), RBI (16), doubles (10), home runs (3), on base percentage (.543) and slugging percentage (.821).
