Junior safety Duke McGhee talks the Gophers Georgia connection, time travel, the lottery and more in the latest Gopher Talk!

Gopher Sports: How have you seen the team grow over four years?

Duke McGhee: I feel like each team has its own personality. The players have definitely improved over times.

GS: Can you talk about the team's Georgia connection?

DM: I love it. I know the players on the team get on my case about my Georgia pride, but we have some ball players. I think we do well, each guy works really hard on the team. It's good for the program.

GS: You played wide receiver in high school. If the staff asked you to play wide out could you?

DM: Probably not. I would need a couple practices under my belt. I wasn't too bad in high school. I could give lining up against our secondary a shot. I'm not going to back down from a challenge.

GS: What do you like to do outside of football?

DM: I like to try different foods, go different places. I like to draw from time to time and do a little poetry.

GS: What's your favorite food?

DM: I've been really into sushi lately. I like shrimp tempura.

GS: What's your favorite class you've taken here?

DM: I would say Public Affairs. I have great professor. His name is Dennis Donovan. I like the things we talk about in this class. We go over social issues and things happening around the world today. That kind of stuff interests me.

GS: What's your favorite show to binge watch on Netflix?

DM: I like "The Cleveland Show" a lot, but recently I checked out "Luke Cage." I'm waiting for the next season to come out.

GS: If you could travel back to any moment in time, when would it be?

DM: The 90s. I'm originally from Atlanta so when I think of the 90s, I think of the culture down south. I think I would've fit right in.

GS: What's your favorite place to go on campus?

DM: I don't really get the chance to go over to Coffman that much anymore. I used to dread going there as a freshman, but now I like going there and just being around the student body.

GS: Who is your role model?

DM: I'm a big fan of Russell Westbrook. His passion for the game is a reason why and his urge to always improve and progress.

GS: Who's the strongest guy on the team?

DM: I'm going to go with Steve Richardson.

GS: If you were stuck on an island and you could only bring one teammate, who would it be and why?

DM: It would be my former teammate Cedric Thompson. He was a safety a couple years back. Cedric had a big impact on me. He always found light in any situation. If I were stranded somewhere, I wouldn't mind being with Cedric. It would be a good time.

GS: What's your dream job?

DM: I want to make a difference in the lives of young people. I think that probably came from my high school coach having a big impact on me. I'm not sure where yet. I'm not sure if it's in an area around Minneapolis or Atlanta.

GS: If you could get anyone to play you in a movie, who would it be?

DM: I would play myself. I don't really think anyone would remind me of myself.

GS: If you could be any animal, what would you be?

DM: I would be a lion. I think it's just the whole king of the jungle thing. I normally watch the Animal Channel so I would be a lion.

GS: What would you do if you won the lottery?

DM: I would definitely invest it. I would save it and try to make more money. Take care of my little brother and mom.
