Gophers Trio Named to All-Great Lakes Region Team

University of Minnesota seniors Rashida Beal (Germantown, Wisc.), Simone Kolander (Lakeville, Minn.) and Josee Stiever (Cedarburg, Wisc.) have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Great Lakes Region First Team.

Beal was a key defensive back that recorded 14 shutouts. Minnesota's defense finished the season with a 0.50 goals against average, as the Gophers outscored opponents 48-12. Beal also collected Big Ten Defender of the Year, All-Big Ten First Team and CoSIDA Academic All-Amerian honors this season.

Kolander lead the conference in points (28) and points per game (1.47) this season. She also is second in the Big Ten in total goals (11) and total shots (72). She has been named Big Ten Forward of the Year and to the All-Big Ten First Team the past two seasons.

Stiever wrapped her season with eight goals and ten assists for Minnesota. The midfielder was named to the All-Big Ten First Team this season, as well as earning Academic All-District honors.

All three, along with goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs, will graduate early this December with hopes of playing professionally.
